RUM WORKSHOP

La Route du Thé, du Rhum et de la Vanille is one of the best things to do in Mauritius for an immersion into the history of the country through its rich cuisine. This authentic excursion will take you on a tour of our three (3) heritage sites: Domaine des Aubineaux, Domaine de Bois Chéri and Domaine de Saint Aubin.

The Domaine des Aubineaux, a colonial house built in 1872, will transport you to another era. It is surrounded by a magnificent botanical garden with exotic plants and endemic trees. At Domaine Bois Chéri, visit the tea factory and sample the tea produced at the Chalet in a charming setting. Finally, head to Domaine de Saint Aubin. Here, the Maison de la Vanille (Vanilla House) shows you how vanilla is processed. The Maison du Rhum invites you to discover all the stages in rum production. Finish the day with a stroll through the estate’s botanical gardens and farm. You can choose to have lunch on each of the three estates.
PROGRAM
Stage 1 - 9:00 a.m.

  • Reception upon arrival at Domaine de Saint Aubin boutique

  • Guided tour of the sugar refinery and factory

  • Visit of the mini-farm

Stage 3 - 9.45 a.m.

  • Guided tour of the colonial house

  • Visit of La Maison du Rhum

  • Sugarcane juice tasting

Stage 4 - 10:30 a.m.

  • Introduction to the traditional methods of making rhum arrangé using 3 main recipes: pineapple and vanilla; passion fruit and vanilla; and dried fruit (apricots, raisins, dates) and vanilla

  • Introduction to the steps involved in personalising the rhum arrangé, as well as labelling and sealing the bottle with an ARM sticker to take home

Stage 5 - 11:30 a.m.

  • Tasting of all varieties of rum

Stage 2 - 9:30 a.m.

  • Visit of La Maison de Vanille

  • Visit of the anthurium greenhouse of Domaine de Saint Aubin

  • Visit of the botanical garden of Domaine de Saint Aubin

Stage 6 - 12:00 noon

  • A themed lunch menu will be served at Le Saint Aubin Restaurant before or after the rum tasting, according to your preference

Couples or families with children

  • Activities for children: Drawing lesson on the mini-farm theme

  • Non-alcoholic mini-cocktail session with sugarcane juice infused with fruit from the Domaine

  • Mini-treasure hunt around the farm
